Mixed-use Commercial and Residential Development

Site Location

Site Location

At the edge of a lively district centre, this project will explore how contemporary architecture can quietly recalibrate place. A new mixed-use building will be conceived as a civic marker rather than an object, drawing energy from movement, light and daily ritual. A transparent ground level animates the street, inviting curiosity and engagement, while homes above carefully shaped to offer calm, privacy and outlook. The materials will be restrained yet expressive, balancing solidity with refinement. Sustainability will be embedded supporting long-term adaptability.

Proposed Elevation Proposals

Tucked into the leafy rhythm of Vernon Road, this elegant revival breathes new life into a timeworn Victorian villa. Once fragmented and neglected, the building is reimagined into ten refined, self-contained residences-each one sculpted with light, space, and quiet dignity. A sympathetic extension anchors the home in its historic streetscape, while contemporary detailing gently elevates its character. Landscaped gardens bloom where concrete once lay, offering sanctuary and softness. The project is a study in restoration with purpose: balancing heritage with sustainability, community with privacy. It's not just housing-it's a renewal of place, crafted with care and clarity.

Tightly enclosed on three sides by established mid-rise blocks, this six-storey scheme delivers 15 apartments above a flexible commercial office unit — maximising a constrained urban site through efficient planning and contextual massing. Surrounded by two eight-storey buildings and the locally listed Bradford Court, the proposal completes the streetscape while respecting its varied architectural grain. Our role was to support the developer with a viable scheme that balanced density, daylight, and commercial potential. In a sensitive location, market-aware thinking and prior experience with neighbouring sites informed a design that is both commercially deliverable and shaped by its urban context.

The Old Coach House

Completed

Tucked within a walled garden in Edgbaston, this once-crumbling coach house has been quietly transformed. Stripped back to its bones, the building has been reimagined as a light-filled home - its plan reorganised for modern living, its materials redefined with calm restraint. A new open-plan ground floor centres around a vast rooflight, drawing daylight deep into the space. The garden, once fragmented, now unfolds clearly and purposefully. Render, charred timber and standing seam roof form a contemporary shell, enclosing warm, natural interiors expressed with honesty. Highly insulated and low-energy, the house now lives lightly, rooted in both memory and clarity.

Set within Edgbaston, this Grade II listed villa is being carefully re-imagined to support contemporary family life while honouring the quiet elegance of its past. The project peels back decades of unsympathetic alteration, restoring lost architectural clarity and reinstating key historic features. Thoughtful internal reconfiguration and a discreet extension create generous, open-plan living spaces, transforming the kitchen into the heart of the home and strengthening the relationship with the garden beyond. Subtle improvements to accessibility, comfort and energy performance are woven into the fabric of the building, allowing the house to evolve with grace, purpose and longevity.

Completed extension to Grade 2 Listed Building

In the heart of Edgbaston’s conservation area, a Georgian villa finds quiet renewal through the gentle addition of a contemporary rear pavilion. Purposefully understated, the new single-storey extension opens the home to light, landscape, and a more fluid way of living. A planted roof and expanses of glass draw nature close, while crisp detailing and honest materials offer contrast with grace. Set slightly apart, it preserves the elegance of the original structure while shaping new spatial rhythms. Sensitive refurbishment inside completes the story—past and present speaking softly, yet clearly, in a home that lives with both memory and modernity.
